A Dive at Aklan's Bagobos Resto Grill

Being stuck in an airport due to crappy airport schedule is one of the ugliest things that could happen to a backpacker-slash-budget traveler like me. But thank goodness, when that happened, I was here here in Kalibo, one of the world's best provinces, where the people are so nice and the airport, despite of being low class, is surrounded by promising restaurants.

Seeing and exploring this province is probably one of the best experiences I had in my life. With me, myself and I seeing and capturing all of those beauties, I can't help but to fall in love with this province and makes it as my second home in the country.

But those experiences were clouded when my airplane bound back to Manila was 4-hours late. I didn't have much food when I started my one-day journey here, so by the time I reached the Kalibo International Airport, I'm really starving and could really eat a horse. At first I just wanna go home, since I'm also craving for some home-cooked meal, but 4 hours is 4 hours, so I decided to do some researching and asking til I found this place that was said to be the best and nearest foodie spot around the airport - the Bagobos Resto Grill.

At first glance, you will consider the place as a typical eatery. But when I stepped in and find how homey and so Pinoy this whole place, I didn't think twice anymore. I'm really hungry, so I took a seat immediately and have myself settled.

That time, the place is deserted, with only me as their customer, I'm kinda hesitant to order. But again, Aklanons are really friendly and approachable, so when the waiter gave me their menu list with a smile, I immediately asked him their bestseller.

He said that their place is popular for seafood - JACKPOT! I'm a huge seafood lover, and despite of having an allergy, I still take the risk. I'm a "pasaway" lafanggero, and since I'm here all alone, this is freedom - a lafanggero freedom!

Sinigang na Hipon - Php150.00

I ordered this Sinigang na Hipon and two cups of rice - I'm really hungry. For me, there's nothing more homey than a warm Pinoy soup. I matched this meal with a fresh coconut juice, for a more refreshing and vacation-style dining.

Coconut - Php15.00

To be honest, I'm not really expecting to have that  huge bowl of soup. I think 4 people can enjoy it and even have 3 to 4 prawns each. The soup tasted really calming, something that a disappointed passenger like me needs, while the prawns tasted juicy and fresh as expected. And  because of disappointment and 4 hours to kill, I managed to finish them all! Haha!

Oops! Sorry!

By the time I went back inside the airport, I thought I'd be collapsing because I had prawns more than my regular seafood limit. I think I was able to fished out all of the prawns from that sinigang and I'm kinda losing some air. I stayed calm, checked if I have some rashes, but there's nothing. I juts thought that maybe it's all in my mind, and after some few more minutes, I found myself stable again.

It was one of the best dining experience that I had in my life. I only spent roughly Php200.00 for everything, so it was really a dining experience that I highly recommends to all of you!

So, next time, you'll be stuck in airport, or here in Kalibo International Airport, don't forget to keep cool and instead of getting angry, spend the remaining time finding more interesting about that place. I believe there's a lot of Bacobos out there ready to serve us all! :-)

Happy eating!
