Wicked opens at Shangri-La Plaza East Wing

Evil, sinful, naughty, mischievous, playful and roguish - whatever and however you define the WICKED, I really don't mind now. Because by the opening of this new sweet shop in Shangri-La Plaza in Manadaluyong, nothing can change the definition of "Wicked" in my mind - which is sweet, delicious, sinfully good and playfully thought!

Led by Chef Christine Paredes of Cravings, and helped out by in-house chefs Ton Albasin, RJ Bernabe and Mac Reyes, Wicked is a place where one can have his/her sweets with a shot of their favorite alcohol. Exciting as it sounds, Wicked's menu is divided into three characteristics sure to tickle one's mind - the Wickedly Sinful, Wickedly Sexy, and Wickedly Intoxicating.

I had a wonderful time visiting the place on its opening day last October 15, and boy, the day that I thought I'll just be having some sweets turns out to be a wonderful time having a chat with Chef Christine, sharing some information about the place and how they've come up with such a "wicked" idea.

Why try Wicked?

According to Chef Christine, with the market so full of different shops each offering cakes, cupcakes and other confections, they've decided for Wicked to house all of these here in just one shop. She shared that once a customer enters their doors, they will surely feel heavenly as the aroma wafting around the shop will wake all their senses. In wicked, she added, that one can indulge in all the sweet confections that one can dream of, from all-time classic desserts to new sugary creations - name it,Wicked has it!

On my visit there, I had a great time sampling some of their best offerings that I think brought out that Harry Potter fan in me. Everything I hear some magical or wizardry term like "Wicked" and then followed by the words "bakeshop," "sweet," and "cupcake," I can't help but to imagine myself riding the Hogwarts bounds train with Bertie Botts sweets. Hehe.

Going back, situated at the posh 5th Level of the East Wing of Shangri-La Plaza is Wicked's cute little bakeshop is filled with outstanding pastries and other products made to excite and challenge everybody's palette. There's the Reese Peanut Butter Cupcake covered with rich Peanut Butter Ganache specked with more pieces of Reese Chocolate, Campfire Chocolate Cupcake with Marshmallows burnt to perfection bathed in Milk Chocolate Ganache; Brookies, a perfect marriage between a moist Brownie and a Crispy Cookie and Chili Avocado Brownies.

For those who are craving for some buttery, crisp tarts, Wicked also offers the Seasonal Fruit Tart with Roasted Almond Flakes, Rich & Velvety Flourless Chocolate Tart and Salted Caramel Pecan Tart filled to the brim with caramel filling and salted pecans served with vanilla ice cream.

And if you want nothing but those moist and sweet cakes, there's the classic favorites from Cravings such as Cherry Walnut Cheesecake, Twix Cheesecake, No-Sugar-Added Cheesecake and Butterscotch.

I personally love their cakes - as always! But if you wanna try something that has a unique approach and different kick, the Spice Pumpkin Lollipies are really great too!

As I end my little chat with Chef Christine, she described "Wicked" as a place to get your sugar trance - a place for kids and kids at heart set to make those dreams sprinkled with sugar happen!

Thank you, Wicked and Chef Christine for the wonderful time! I will definitely go back to try those colorful French Macaroons and of course, more cakes and brownies! Congratulations too!
